Since 1949, Cadillac has used Deville as a model name on some of the finest, American made luxury automobiles produced by General Motors. The word "Deville" is French for "of the city" or "town". Being named after the body style, which was originally featured as an open chauffeurs compartment and an enclosed passenger compartment. The original Deville elevated many from every day transportation to luxurious mobile comfort and transformed the passengers into a status symbol.
1949 introduced the Coupe Deville, and in 1956 a four-door hardtop was produced, later being called the Sedan Deville. In 1971 Cadillac redesigned their full-size models along with all other GM full-size lines. The 472 cubic inch engine was still standard equipment, rated at 375 horsepower and 255 foot pounds of torque. In November of 1971, a showroom stock Cadillac Deville entered a coast-to-coast cannonball run. Averaging 84.6 miles per hour, the Cadillac posted the highest average speed and placed third overall in the event. During the rally, the Cadillac averaged 8.9 miles per gallon, a pretty good number for 1971 fuel economy standards!
Offered here by Benchmark Classics is a true collector's item-a 1971 Cadillac Sedan Deville SURVIVOR car. Posting only 50,000 original miles, everything is bone stock original on the vehicle. The exterior light turquoise paint is also in great condition for 37 years old, and there are some stone chips in the passenger rear door along with a few other minor touchups that have been done over the years. These have not been repaired as we here at Benchmark Classics are doing everything possible to preserve the originality of this collector's item. The white vinyl top is also the original and is free of any rips or tears. All of the exterior trim has been well preserved and is in excellent original condition. Chrome bumpers, moldings, nameplates, and wheel skirts show minimal wear for their age! The door weather strips are the only issue requiring attention, as they are dry rotted and cracked. Once again, these have been left alone and in as-is condition to preserve the originality of this SURVIVOR car. This Sedan Deville has a solid undercarriage along with the original wheels and hubcaps. But enough about the exterior, lets brag up... uh, inform you about the interior. The interior is also original and in excellent condition. A color matched turquoise cloth material; both bench seats are free of any major defects. The back seat appears as if no one has ever sat in it! As all Cadillacs do, this Sedan Deville is equipped with power locks, windows, AM radio, air conditioning, and many other "extras" for 1971. The dash clock still works too!
