Restoration Projects
1964 Chevrolet Corvette Repaint
At Benchmark Classics, cars aren’t just a business for us; they’re a passion. Our restoration managers love talking about the projects that are going on in our shop and when this ’64 Corvette came through our doors for a repaint, we decided to put in on the web for all to see. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll being sharing some of the restoration processes we use, and providing weekly pictures and updates!
The beginning of the process involves a non-chemical strip to remove the old paint and surface imperfections. Body work is sanded with 180 grit sand paper. After removing the paint, the car is prepped for priming by using a wax and grease remover then masking with tape and paper to prevent over spray. The car is then primed and stick-blocked. This process is repeated a twice and then prepped for painting. Our classic ’64 Corvette is currently still going through the non-chemical strip. Check our pictures to see our Restoration Managers in action!
Next week, check back for pictures of our team priming the car and actually adding the Rally Red paint!
